SMITH LAKE JUNE 2005Date Fished: 5/29/05Water Temperature: 77 Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater I fished the Saturday morning T out of Smith Lake Park. My partner and I probably caught 15 fish but we only had 4 overs. Three of the overs were spots that barely went over 16 inches. My partner landed a nice head on our first stop on a sammy that was probably close to 3 lbs. Most of the fish we caught were off of a nothing bank, but there was a sweet spot on this stretch. We were way off the bank. My wife's uncle came up for the weekend and I took him out Sunday Morning to the same spots we fished Saturday. We didn't have the numbers (6 fish total)that we had Saturday but we had a couple of magnum spots. He landed one weighing 4 lbs even on a lipless crank and I boated a 3-13 on a spook. I really thought that this cloudy drizzle weather would really have them turned on and extend the top water action. I was wrong. The bite hasn't been bad out there but I figured it would be wide open as it has been for the past several weeks. I think when the weather stabilizes it should get them turned on again. FYI, we will run the Saturday morning wild cat for one more Saturday (June 4). Next year I will try and start it up beginning the Saturday after the last major day tournament, probably the first Saturday in May, and go through the first weekend or 2 in June. There is a all night charity tournament,"Fishing for J.J." June 11. This is for a really good cause so try and make this tournament if you can. INDEX: |
