BIG REDFISH AND SPEC'SHello from the bayou country! My name is Capt. Raymond Griffin and I fish inthe Barataria water way system, that's about 30 minutes south of New Orleans La. and all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Right now we are catching limits (5 per person) of Red fish daily. The red fish are still on their winter feeding pattern, staying in deep canals and biting real slow. Our best baits are white or green cocahoe minnows on 1/4 ounce jig heads. The trout fishing is slow at best and will not get better until the weather and water warms up considerably. If you are planning a trip anywhere along the Louisiana coast in the next 30 days be prepared for low and dirty water, fish slow and bring some live or cut bait along just in case nothing else works. Those fish will feed, their just not active yet. The good news is that we are not far away from the spring runs. By mid March, as the gulf warms those brown shrimp will start to move in the shallow bays and those BIG Trout and Red fish will be right behind them. If you are planning a trip down this way and want to know current conditions, just e mail me and I'll be glad to tell you exactly how things are and what type of equipment to bring. Capt.
