GULF COAST JUNE 2005Phenom Orange beach, AL USASLOW DAY OFFSHORE: (O Marlin, 1 YFT) Got invited to ride out on my buddy's 35 Cabo on Saturday. They only wanted Blue Marlin, but I agreed to go anyway. Left out of Orange Beach early a.m. and dropped lines somewhere just south of the Steps. Trolled for an hour but the water was kind of dead so we picked up an ran. Decided to avoid the Rigs b/c it was Saturday and didn't want to mess with a parking lot. Don't know if they were crowded or not, but we just assumed. Anyway, not much to report until about 1:00pm when the crew finally agreed to let me put out a Tuna Twitch on the long rigger. About 20 minutes later we got our only bite of the day. We were about 12 miles South of the Marlin Rig and we boated a nice +/-120 lb Yellowfin. Nothing else after that. Didn't have a Marlin in the baits all day. Settled in for the long ride in and polished off a half gallon of Jim Beam with good friends. It was fun day on the water and at least we got one fish on ice. Heading over to the old Man's house for Father's Day right now. Happy Father's Day to all you fathers out there. If you guys are anything like my pops, then you all deserve it. Day Saver YF INDEX: |
