GUNTERSVILLE JUNE 2005Submitted by TroyJ/Angling AlabamaDate Fished: 6/27/05 We got out for a short morning trip today, it was a perfect day to be on the water. Water level was down about a foot. Willowflies are hatching everywhere, and there was a lot of surface activity everywhere we went. The two guys in the boat with me today caught 16 bass in about 3 hrs of fishing. None were over 3.5-lbs, but most were at least 15". I caught a couple on a jig, but the jig bite was slow. A Pop-R worked for a few, but the main deal continues to be the big Yum worm. Swimming the worm Texas-rigged with a 1/8oz TG tungsten bullet weight on 17-lb line has been the best producer for the last few weeks in my boat. Red bug or plum colors have both worked very well. Targeting open water points and humps, or the inside grass line on the channel ledges have been the most productive, just throwing up to the matted or near matted grass and working the worm down the slope with a slow, steady swimming motion over the grass has been the deal. (Don't set the hook too hard, they'll break off in the thick grass, just pull or sweep set, it's all you need). Lots of bream are active and even some crappie with the willowflies hatching, so take the ultra light if you get a chance. Good luck and put them back alive.
