NEELY HENRY LAKE MARCH 2008

Neely Henry: Level: Down 1.2 feet low. Temp: 60. Clarity: From Big Canoe down, the lake is clearing. The rest of the lake is muddy.

Bass: “Most fish will be spawned by the middle of April and moved out to secondary points resting up on or near piers,” said guide Mike McCullars. “This is an excellent time to flip piers or pick them apart with a shaky-head rig.” Mike likes a 1/4-oz. head rigged with a watermelon-red finesse worm or a Paca Chuck. “A 1/4-oz. will let the bait fall slower and will trigger more strikes,” said Mike. “Early morning fishing will be at its peak. Lunker Lures, Sammys or flukes on main-river points leading into spawning flats will get you a lot of fish. Shallow-running crankbaits will get you bites. Some days you’ll have to burn them, and others you’ll need to bounce off structure.”
