WEDOWEE MARCH 2008

Wedowee: Level: Down 5.4 feet below full pool. Temp: 55-60 degrees. Clarity: Stain up the rivers, clear down the lake.

Bass: Great. Eric Morris with Wedowee Marine said the crankbait bite has arrived. “The fish have moved to the backs of the pockets and are being caught on crankbaits and spinnerbaits in 3 to 5 feet of water,” said Eric. “Crawfish colors are working best now. The jig bite is getting good on blowdowns in the backs of pockets and creeks. It took over 17 pounds to get a decent check in a tournament last weekend. You can expect to catch plenty of numbers with a Shad Rap or Bandit. We have hooked some larger fish with a 6-inch swimbait in a shad color. The jig-head and finesse-worm bite is always a good way to catch numbers, but the bigger fish are hitting bigger baits now that the water is warming.”

Crappie: Good. Eric said the crappie are taking their time getting to the shallow water. “Expect the fish to move to the bank with the next full moon coming, and look for those large blowdowns and docks with brush to produce plenty of fish,” said Eric. “Jigs in black and chartreuse are my personal favorites, but you need to try several different colors to find the more aggressive fish.”
