Bass fishing is Good and a lot Bass are staging on secondary points, ditch lines and brush and stumps in 3-5 feet of water in the back of the bays The New Gizz4 crankbait www.smacktackle.com and Rat L Traps are awesome baits to catch these aggressive staging Bass. Flipping a 3/8 ounce, brown crawfish pattern jig in brush and rip rap banks in the bays as the sun warms the rocks is a good technique to catch these prespawn fish. A lot of fish have started moving to the spawning banks and are being caught on Lizards and worms and jerk baits, shallow rocky banks with brush or stumps are sure to be holding some good fish.

Crappie fishing is Great and good numbers with a lot of limits of fish are being caught spider trolling Jiffy Jigs in 1/24 ounce in colors JJ12, JJ13, JJ17, JJ18 JJ20, JJ25, JJ26 and JJ35 www.jiffyjigs.com on 6 pound test line at 8 tenths to1 mph In 4-8 feet of water in the bays of the upper and lower lake. Little River is also producing some good catches trolling the river channel with 1/16 ounce Jiffy Jigs in the main river channel. Look for these suspended Crappie with your electronics and adjust your trolling speed untill you get your jigs running within a foot above of the depth you see the fish holding. The crappie will normally be in the deeper water in the mornings and start moving shallower as the sun warms the water. A lot of fish are starting to be caught shooting docks with a 1/24 ounce Jiffy Jig in the Yellow Creek area and in Big Nose creek, the docks in Little River are producing also.

Striper fishing is Fair and the Stripers are starting to move up the Coosa River for the spawning run. Fishing live Shad or cut Shad on or near the bottom in the main Coosa River from Poole's Ferry to Mayo's Lock and Dam is a great way to catch these fish as they move up river for the spawn. The warm water discharge from Plant Hammond near the Hwy. 100 bridge always holds some good fish from February thru early March. Trolling a 1/8 or 1/4 ounce jig with a 3 inch grub or sassy shad on 8 or 10 pound test line in the main Coosa River from Poole's Ferry to Mayo's Lock and Dam is a great way to catch the smaller 2-6 pound schooling stripers.

Catfish are biting Great. Catfish are being caught all over the lake. Target the marinas where all the crappie are being cleaned as the discarded waste draws in the big Blues and Flatheads. The docks at JR's Marina and Bay Springs Marina are producing some 20-50 pound Blues and a few Flatheads on Crappie heads most every night. Make sure to use a good quality fishing line I suggest 20 or 25 pound test line. These big Catfish are strong and will fight very hard in the cooler winter months, so good quality equipment is a must.
