SMITH LAKE APRIL 2008Water Temperature: 65Water Clarity: 4 feet or greater Well I'm finally starting to have a little success with some open water top water action. I got out for about an hour this morning and landed this fish on a blind cast. Also while I was out I saw a very slight disturbance on the surface and made a Hail Mary cast towards it. I figured it was just a carp but I wasn't sure. After working my bait about 10 feet I started seeing the water swirling behind the bait and I knew what was about to happen. After a few more swirls a pretty good size stripe finally committed himself and crushed the bait. The stripe was in the 12 lb range. The spot and stripe were my only bites this morning, but I look for activity only to increase for the next few weeks. If you are looking for this type of bite, fish points, creek mouths, & bends in the lake. They are always a good place to start looking.
