WEST POINT LAKE IS FULL, CLEAR & 57 DEGREES BY CHRIS BRACKETT, HIGHLAND MARINA AND RESORT, 706 845 1004

Bass fishing has been tough this week. Fish are moving out deeper and the shallow bite is getting tough. Hopefully this Monday there is a full moon so that should help the fishing out. Right now fish the grass and weeds in 2-5ft of water with a white Zoom Fluke or a green pumpkin Senko. Also try a top water fished in the grass and twitch it just enough to keep a ripple on the surface of the water. Most of my bites have been coming from when I pop my baits out of the grass. Up lake good places to fish are Yellow Jacket Creek, Liberty Hill cove and also Ski jump cove, and don't forget half-moon creek is do good also. Down Lake the pattern is very similar to up lake but with the water being clearer throw a Pop-R in bone color. Good places down lake to fish are Maple Creek, Bird Creek, and the No-Name pockets between them. Also keep a Rat L Trap or Sammy tied on for those fish chasing bait or just even cruising the bank.

Hybrids and striper fishing is great and the same pattern is still working. Cut shad is working great when the water gets muddy but as the water clears up switch to live. I like to use 2-4inch threadfin for 90% of my bait but I always have some big gizzards with me just in case I get around the big stripers or hybrids. Lately fish up to 8lbs are common with most of the fish being 2-4lbs. Also Please respect your fellow fishermen, when you are driving please slow down for the anchored boats. Big wakes can push a boat all the way to the bank.

Crappie fishing is still good here. Fish are in shallow water lake wide. Good baits this week has been a Black/Chart Tube Jig fished under a cork about 9 inches. Throw the jig out there and hop it back to the boat. Good places to fish is the back of Half Moon Creek, Yellow Jacket Creek , and by McGee Ramp.
