5 Hours to Big Tarpon

TarponBy Darryl Garrison

No need for a long drive or expensive airline ticket to fish for tarpon, My fishing buddy and I recently made the short 5 hour trip to Appalachicola, Florida just one hour east of Panama City, where we met up with Chris Robinson, who along with his brother Tommy, own Robinson Brothers guide service.
These guys specialize in inshore flats fishing, But also offer Bay fishing and offshore trips.

We chose flats fishing and the reason was tarpon, These giants begin their run in late May and continue through August.

TarponWe met Chris at 7:00 am and within twenty minutes we were sightfishing foe the tarpon and within two hours we had our first hookup.

There is nothing like a one hundred pound fish jumping six feet in the air to get your heart racing, and I forgot to mention this all happens from an eighteen foot boat in three feet of water. In all we fought four and landed one tarpon that day, a nice sixty pounder from which Chris removed one scale and presented it to me, a custom in Tarpon fishing, before releasing the silver giant to fight another day.

If you are looking for an exciting saltwater trip, I highly recommend Robinson Brothers Guide Service, They can be contacted at (850) 653-8896 or visit them on the web at www.floridaredfish.com.
